Start with the correct release names

The release is Australia, not Austria. Zurich became generally available in September 2025 and completed ServiceNow's first alphabetical release cycle. Australia followed in 2026 and begins the next cycle.

This is not simply a visual refresh. Zurich established a stronger agentic AI and platform foundation. Australia builds on that foundation by placing more automated decisions, maintained knowledge and governed AI directly inside enterprise workflows.

What Zurich established

Zurich was positioned around intelligence and innovation. It expanded the platform's agentic AI direction, including AI agents that can be created, tested and coordinated through AI Agent Studio and an Orchestrator.

For architects, Zurich represented the move from AI that only drafts or summarizes toward AI that can participate in multi-step work. That shift made agent design, tool permissions, human oversight and AI governance important platform concerns.

  • Agentic workflows became a central platform conversation
  • AI Agent Studio provided a unified place to create and test agents
  • The Orchestrator coordinated agents working toward a larger outcome
  • Governance and AI asset visibility became architecture requirements

What Australia adds

ServiceNow describes Australia as bringing automated decision-making and continuously maintained knowledge into the flow of work. Examples highlighted by ServiceNow include Intelligent Approvals, Knowledge Center and AI Agent Advisor.

Intelligent Approvals can interpret policy documents and route routine approvals. Knowledge Center focuses on identifying knowledge gaps, flagging outdated content and helping create knowledge from operational records. AI Agent Advisor helps identify and prioritize automation opportunities before teams build agents.

  • More AI-supported decisions inside operational workflows
  • Knowledge quality treated as a continuously managed capability
  • Faster path from automation opportunity to deployed AI agent
  • Broader visibility and governance as AI adoption scales

What architects should do before upgrading

Do not treat this as a feature-toggle exercise. First inventory the products, customizations, integrations, reports, workspaces and AI capabilities used in your instance. Then build personalized release notes for the products you actually own.

Run the upgrade through sub-production, review skipped changes, regression-test critical user journeys and confirm plugin and Store application compatibility. AI features also require governance decisions covering data access, tools, human approval, auditability and measurable value.

  • Build product-specific release notes
  • Baseline performance and critical workflows
  • Test customizations and integrations
  • Review AI entitlements and activation requirements
  • Define governance before expanding autonomous actions
